Vietnam will send a group of 15 medical experts to help Myanmar overcome difficulties caused by the recent tropical cyclone Nargis.

With more than 2 tonnes of medicines, medical equipment and logistical facilities, Vietnamese experts are expected to stay in the country from June 4 to June 17.

Addressing a ceremony on June 3 to meet with the group members before going to Myanmar, Deputy Minister of Health Cao Minh Quang said that with experience in solving problems caused by natural disasters in Vietnam, these experts will provide Myanmar’s victims with the most effective services and treatments, adding that Vietnam is willing to send more experts if necessary.

This humanitarian action will further strengthen co-operative relations between the two countries, said Mr Quang.

The tropical cyclone Nargis hit the coast of Myanmar on May 2, claming more than 100,000 lives and making some 1.5 to 2.5 million survivors homeless./.
