Party chief named Secretary of Central Military Commission

Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, has been appointed as Secretary of the Central Military Commission in the 2015 – 2020 tenure. 

The appointment is part of the decision of the Politburo, which was announced by Pham Minh Chinh, a Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission in Hanoi on May 10. 

The 2015-2020 Central Military Commission has 23 members. 

General Ngo Xuan Lich, a Politburo member and Minister of National Defence, is Vice Secretary. 

Meanwhile, Politburo member and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is a member of the commission’s standing committee.
