Vietnam is willing to share reconstruction experience and cooperate with Afghanistan within bilateral and multilateral frameworks, said a senior diplomat.

Vietnamese Ambassador to France Le Kinh Tai made the statement at the International Conference in Support of Afghanistan held ended in Paris recently.

The ambassador stressed that Vietnam is fully prepared to join hands with donors and international organisations to undertake reconstruction projects in the war-torn country.

He praised the Afghanistan people for their achievements recorded since 2001 and expressed his belief that the government and people of Afghanistan will overcome the current challenges with strong support from the international community.

The conference drew the participation of delegations from 68 countries and 17 international organisations, including the United Nations (UN), the European Commission (EC), the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Donors pledged a total of US$21.41 billion for Afghanistan’s reconstruction efforts between now and 2010. The US ranked first in terms of promised funding, with US$10.2 billion, followed by ADB with US$1.3 billion.
