US Government supports Vietnamese efforts to overcome flood losses

VOV.VN - The US Department of State issued a press release on October 22 stating that the US Government extends its deepest condolences to both the Vietnamese Government and people, going on to express grief for the victims of the recent spell of serious flooding to hit the centre of the nation.

The press release by the US Department of State outlines that the US Government stands ready to assist the country in easing the severe damage caused by flooding, whilst also expressing its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the tragedy, including the many thousands of citizens who have been displaced.

This comes as the US Agency for International Development (USAID) affirmed that it will provide assistance worth US$200,000 in an effort to support those affected by severe flooding in both Vietnam and Cambodia.

At present, USAID is working alongside the Vietnam Red Cross Society in order to provide emergency assistance to effectively aid those affected by the flooding.

Furthermore, the US agency will provide long-term funding for programmes that contribute to reducing the risk and impact of disasters throughout Southeast Asia. Through these investments, USAID’s partners have been able to remain on the front lines to respond to the impact of the severe weather to hit the nation and Cambodia during this year’s active typhoon season.
