Trump highlights DPRK’s growth potential with denuclearization

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) hold great potential to grow if it would denuclearise, US President Donald Trump has said.

Posting on Twitter, Trump said “the potential is AWESOME, a great opportunity, like almost none other in history, for my friend Kim Jong Un.”

His comments came at the outset of the second DPRK – US summit in Hanoi, which takes place on February 27 and 28.

According to a release from the White House, President Trump and DPRK leader Kim will have a 20-minute one-on-one meeting before dining together at the Sofitel Legend Metropole hotel on February 27. The dinner is scheduled to last for an hour and a half, ending at about 8:35 pm.

Trump will be accompanied to dinner by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney. Kim, too, will have two aides with him.

The two leaders will have a series of official meetings on February 28.

Trump arrived in Hanoi on late February 26 for the second summit with Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK Kim Jong-un, who arrived in Vietnam earlier the same day.
