The Central Highlands and central regions will be top priorities for the country's tourism infrastructure development plan during the 2006-2010 period, according to the Vietnam Administration of Tourism.
The plan is part of the country's efforts to fulfill its target of welcoming 6 million foreign visitors and 26 million domestic travellers by 2010, earning US$4-4.5 million, accounting for 6.5 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Nearly 60 projects on tourism infrastructure were implemented in 58 cities and provinces nationwide during the 2001-2005 period with a total capital investment of over US$132 million. More than US$119 million was poured into road building and the remainder was used for utilities supply and environmental protection at tourist sites.
