The National Pencak Silat Championship began in Hanoi on April 13 with the participation of more than 250 martial artists from 24 localities and sectors across the country.

The six-day event is expected to select excellent candidates for the national team to compete at the 24th SEA Games in Thailand later this year.

National hopefuls, including world champions Trinh Thi Nga and Dinh Cong Son, are competing in the tournament as competitors from the localities.

They will contend for 26 sets of medals in tanding (combat) and seni (performance) events for men (45kg-110kg) and women (45kg-90kg).
