A week of Vietnamese gastronomy is underway in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to introduce Vietnamese-food and goods to Malaysian people.

During the opening day of June 15, the food fair attracted more than 200 visitors, who came to enjoy Vietnamese food, the most popular of which were “pho” (rice noodle soup) and “nem” (spring rolls). In the following days, Vietnamese food stalls at the fair received an average of between 300 and 400 orders a day.

During the fair, participants also had a chance to enjoy Vietnamese music shows featuring singers clad in traditional “ao dai” (or long dress) and music played by Vietnamese traditional instruments such as monochords, zithers and string instruments.

The food fair is jointly organised by the representative office of the Vietnamese Embassy, Vietnam Airlines and Nikko hotel.

At present, there are five shops selling Vietnamese noodle soup and food in Kuala Lumpur alone, all of which are decorated with ornaments resembling the turtle temple, the traditional long dress and the conical hat of Vietnam.

Vietnamese goods such as clothes and handicraft items are also available on the shelves of shops in the famous Twin Tower and in several supermarkets in Kuala Lumpur. More than 130,000 Vietnamese people are currently working in Malaysia.
