Vietnam wants to attract Malaysian investors in the fields of production, infrastructure construction and tourism development, said Nguyen The Phuong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment at a seminar on trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam in Malaysia on December 17.

In 2010, the Vietnamese government will use the model of Public Private Partnership (PPP) to attract investment in infrastructure projects with the Long Thanh-Dau Giay highway being the key one, added Mr. Phuong.

Malaysia is now the leading ASEAN country and the 3rd globally to invest in Vietnam as currently it operates 342 projects in the country at a total capitalisation of US$18 billion.

Trade turnover between Vietnam and Malaysia has also increased in the last 5 years, by 20 percent per year on average.

In the first 10 months of this year, bilateral trade turnover reached over US$3.4 billion.

The seminar was organised by the Vietnamese embassy in Malaysia to provide an opportunity for businesses from both countries to meet and discuss trade and investment cooperation.
