GE scholarships granted to Vietnamese students

(VOV) -The Institute of International Education (IIE) will award 10 scholarships to first year students from Vietnam through the 2013 General Electric (GE) Foundation Programme.

The ten outstanding students pursuing business, technology, or the natural sciences will each receive US$3,450 for a maximum three years of study.

They will attend a series of workshops, taught by renowned experts, with the aim of improving their leadership skills.

The recipients will also have an opportunity to complete their apprenticeships or gain work experience with veterans from GE Vietnam, as well as to participate in community development activities.

This is the seventh time IIE have awarded these scholarships to Vietnamese students. The GE Foundation seeks to financially support exceptional students from geographically disadvantaged regions, ethic minority groups, or places where severe gender inequality still exists.

Its 10 countries of focus include Canada, the Republic of Czech, Hungary, India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Poland, Romania, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Founded in 1919, the New York-based IIE is one of world’s largest and most experienced educational exchange non-governmental organisations. It established its first Vietnam branch in 1997.
