Japan disbursed US$2.1 million in grants for local projects in Vietnam in the 2007 fiscal year ending in March 2008.
The Japanese embassy said Japan’s non-refundable aid focused on reconstruction or upgrade of primary schools, which totally cost US$852,900.
Healthcare drew nine projects with a combined capital of US$741,900, mostly for the supply of medical equipment. Transport received three projects with a total investment of US$232,190 and environment, three projects with almost US$250,000.
Japan has resumed non-refundable aid to Vietnam since 1992, which now totals US$22.65 million with 325 projects.
