Halal product distribution centers to be set up at post offices

Thailand Post, which provides postal services in Thailand, is working with the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center in establishing halal product distribution centers at various post offices across the country.

These centers will sell halal goods from the three southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, which have been affected by unrest.

Starting on 10 May 2016, halal products from the three provinces will be put on sale at 72 post offices in 28 provinces. A target has been set to establish such a halal distribution center to cover all provinces nationwide by the end of 2016.

The products to be on sale at the post offices will be of high quality. They are made in accordance with the local culture and lifestyle of southern residents. There are numerous products that make a name for the deep South. Among them are halal food, herbal products, handicrafts, Islamic clothing, and souvenirs.

The halal business in the southern border provinces stands a good chance of growing further. Thai halal food is popular not only among Muslims but also non-Muslim consumers. A large number of health-conscious consumers are interested in this kind of food as well, because its production process focuses on hygienic standards.

Local residents interested in selling their products at these distribution centers may contact the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center at the telephone number 0-7320-3801, or the hotline 1880.

A Halal Industrial Estate is being established in Panare district, Pattani province. The province has adjusted its management plan on halal development and promotion by focusing on encouraging local manufacturers to be aware of the importance of certifying halal standards. It has also urged local small and medium-sized enterprises and community businesses to join the Halal Industrial Estate.

The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center has carried out various activities to promote halal business in the deep South and create new halal entrepreneurs to cope with the expected growth of this business.
