Activities mark 59th anniversary of Vietnamese Physicians’ Day

Various activities have been carried out in localities nationwide to mark the 59th anniversary of Vietnamese Physicians’ Day, which falls on February 27.

The health sector of Hanoi on February 26 held a ceremony to celebrate the event and launch a movement urging medical staff to act as role models in their communities in 2014.

Addressing the event, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien lauded the achievements of the capital’s health sector last year, expressing her hope that doctors, nurses and medical staff will exert more efforts to further enhance their professional skills.

She also stressed the need for personnel training and high technology application in medical treatment to raise the sector’s service quality.

On the occasion, 16 individuals were presented with the “Emeritus Physician” title, while four others and one team were awarded with the Labour Order third class. Six other teams and 10 individuals also received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister.

A similar ceremony was also organised in Ho Chi Minh City on the same day. This year, the city’s health care sector targets the coverage of 15 doctors over 10,000 locals and at least one doctor in every local health care station.

During the event, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City ’s Health Department, Doctor Nguyen Tan Binh was honoured with the “People’s Physician” title, while 90 outstanding others received the title of “Emeritus Physician” and four others were granted with the Labour Order third class.

Also on February 26, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, visited staff of the Health Ministry to mark the occasion.

He said he hopes Vietnamese doctors will promote their role in the modernization of the health care sector and fulfil all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

Earlier on February 25, the Russian chapter of the Vietnam-Russia Oriental Medicine Association held its first congress for the 2014-2019 tenure.

With 50 member doctors working in Russia, the non-profit organisation aims to develop and promote Vietnam ’s traditional medicine abroad.
