Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem on May 26 held separate meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Malaysia and Latvia to discuss bilateral ties.

The FMs were in Vietnam for the 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM 9) held in Hanoi on May 25 and 26.

Deputy PM Khiem and Malaysian FM Datuk Anifah Aman agreed to boost cooperation between the two countries by exchanging high-level delegations and holding the fifth meeting of the Vietnam-Malaysia Joint Committee in Malaysia.

Meeting with Latvian FM Maris Riekstins, Deputy PM Khiem expressed his joy at the active development of traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Baltic countries, including Latvia.

He expressed his thanks to the Baltic Governments and people for their support during Vietnam’s past struggle for national freedom and unification and during its current period of national construction and renewal.

Deputy PM Khiem asked Latvia and the other Baltic countries to continue supporting Vietnam in developing links with the EU and work together with Vietnam at multilateral forums.

The Latvian FM praised Vietnam’s increasing position in the international arena and expressed his wishes to develop ties with Vietnam in economics, trade and investment, culture, education and training.
