52,000 local women benefit from Belgian-funded project

(VOV) - The Government of Belgium has provided nearly VND45 billion in credit loans for more than 52,000 Vietnamese women.

This was announced at a conference in Hanoi on December 19.

The conference was co-organized by the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the Belgian Development and Cooperation Agency to review the implementation of the Belgian-funded project from 1999 to 2012.

The project aims to help them develop household economy for a better living, promote gender equality, and increase the role of rural women in society.

VWU Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa said the Belgian-funded project has made a significant contribution to providing more credit loans for poor women.

The Union is expected to set up a credit fund for newly-established microfinancial organizations in the near future, she added.
