Helicopter crashes in HCMC, killing 4 soldiers
(VOV) - A Vietnam Air Force helicopter crashed during a training mission in Ho Chi Minh City in the morning of January 28, killing all four servicemen on board.
The US-made UH-1 helicopter crashed in Binh Chanh district eight minutes after it took off from an airport in the city on a training mission, said Lt. Gen. Vo Van Tuan, the deputy chief of staff of the Vietnamese People’s Army. He added that no one on the ground was hurt as the Huey crashed into the woods.

Colonel Le Van Hanh, political commissar of Division 370 under Vietnam’s Air Defence-Air Force Service, said that the pilots reported engine failure and had tried to fly to a farm on the city's outskirts where it crashed. According to initial estimates, the helicopter might be seriously broken down.

VOV correspondent reported from the scene that the chopper wreckage and corpses were found at the Pham Van Hai plantation in Binh Chanh District.

The four killed in the crash are senior lieutenant colonel Tran Van Duc, Deputy Chief of Staff, Regiment 917, captain and trainer, senior lieutenant colonel Do Van Chinh, and pilots Nguyen Viet Cuong and Le Hong Quan.

Last July, a Russian-made Mi-171 chopper crashed on the outskirts of Hanoi during a training exercise, killing 20 soldiers on board. One survived with severe burns.
