NA Chairman welcomes Russia State Duma leader

(VOV) - The Vietnam National Assembly will do its utmost to consolidate and develop the comprehensive partnership with Russia, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told a senior Russian State Duma official.

At a reception for First Vice Chairman Ivan Melnikov in Hanoi on December 23, Hung noted relations between the two countries have developed well in recent times through high-level visit exchanges.

The two legislative bodies have maintained reciprocal visits to share experience in legislation and coordinated closely at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said Vietnam-Russia legislative ties should be upgraded on a par with the two countries' comprehensive partnership

He expressed his belief Melnikov’s visit will be a milestone in legislative ties between Vietnam and Russia, helping to elevate them on a par with the two countries’ comprehensive partnership.

For his part, Melnikov said relations between the two legislative bodies are developing dynamically, setting an exemplary model for other parliamentary relations in the world.

He spoke highly of Vietnam’s Doi Moi (Renewal) achievements and big potential for stronger Russia-Vietnam trade ties, which he believed would reach US$7 billion by 2015.

He vowed to work hard to promote relations between the two countries and parliaments.

NA Chairman Hung invited Russia’s parliamentary leaders to attend the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to be hosted in capital Hanoi in 2015.

Earlier the same day, NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu held talks with Ivan Melnikov on measures to strengthen links between the two legislatures.
