Vietnam institute unveils cyber training platform

A cyber training platform, purportedly the first of its kind in Vietnam, was launched November 3 by a cyber security training institute in Ho Chi Minh City.

The platform functions as an Internet-based ‘training range’ for scenarios of alien infiltration, according to its operator, the Institute of Cyber Security Operations (iCSO).

Established last year by Ho Chi Minh City-based iSpace College of Information Technology, iCSO provides a range of vocational courses on cyber security.

The iCSO cyber training platform provides near-perfect virtualization and simulation of network systems of key government bodies and organizations, where learners can practice their defense strategies against cyber attacks.

Equipment and technology solutions used by the ‘training range’ are imported from Israel, its chairman Do Ngoc Duy Trac said.

The platform can facilitate more than 200 experts working on 20 simultaneous operations with more than 1,000 different cyber attack scenarios simulating power stations, automated teller machines, bank servers, and industrial control systems, Trac added.

Simulators can also launch high-efficiency programmed attacks using over 6,000 attack strategies, 100 defense system bypassing techniques, and 30,000 real malwares.

The iCSO also held a demo drill on November 3 as demonstrators were tasked with defending a cyber attack on a thermal power plant that took control of the facility’s generators.

The ‘training range’ is expected to help improve Vietnam’s response capability towards future cyber security breach.
