Vietnam is Cuba’s largest rice supplier

(VOV) - Cuba plans to import 300,000 tonnes of rice from Vietnam for 2015 in accordance with the terms of a deal struck at the 32nd meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee held late last year.

It recently emerged from the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture that each year the Caribbean country needs roughly 650,000 tonnes of rice to meet the demand for its 11.2 million population.

Cuba’s rice production only meets 50% of domestic consumption.

The nation has set a target for 2015 to import sufficient rice quantities to meet 60% or 350,000 tonnes of domestic rice consumption, making Vietnam its largest rice supplier.
