Flag-raising ceremony marks Liberation Day

(VOV) - Quang Tri central province on April 30 held a flag-raising ceremony marking 34 years of southern liberation and national unification.

At the ceremony, speakers reviewed the 20-year traditional heroic struggle of the Vietnamese army and people against US imperialists.

The flag-hoisting ceremony aims to uphold the patriotism, revolutionary heroism and solidarity, and affirm great achievements the country gained during the past struggle for national liberation, they said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee Dinh The Huynh, said the recognition of the Hien Luong-Ben Hai river banks, the Quang Tri Old Citadel and places depicting 81 days of defending Quang Tri town in 1972 as national relic sites is an important event.

He expressed the deep gratitude of the Party, State and people for the dedication and sacrifices of fellow soldiers who laid down their lies for national independence and freedom.

He also acknowledged the efforts made by provincial Party committee, authorities and people in preserving and promoting the historical values and cultural traditions of previous generations.

“Quang Tri needs to continue boosting socio-economic development in combination with tourism development and heritage conservation to promote its image to the people nationwide as well as international friends.” Huynh added.
