Singapore, Vietnam bolster court cooperation

(VOV) -Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh and his Singaporean counterpart Sundaresh Menon have concurred to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the two supreme courts, laying a solid underpinning for partnership activities. 

Future activities will be focused on delegation exchange, personnel training, IT application in court activities, and the joint organisation of international conferences.

These were reached during the officials’ meeting as part of Truong Hoa Binh’s working visit to Singapore from January 4-6. 

Both sides agreed to set up groups of judges who will work together to devise cooperation areas to submit them to the two chief judges for approval on the fringes of the upcoming ASEAN Chief Justices’ Meeting. 

Giving a boost to bilateral ties between the two courts is essential in the context that bilateral strategic partnership is flourishing in a multitude of areas. . 

The Supreme Court of Singapore and the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam are members of a number of justice forums, including the Asia-Pacific Chief Justices Conference and ASEAN Chief Justices’ Meeting. 

During the visit, the Vietnamese official attended the launch of Singapore ’s Legal Year 2015 and the inauguration of the Singapore International Commercial Court . 

He joined a banquet hosted by Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam, who voiced his support for the establishment and development of bilateral partnership between the two Supreme Courts.
