Vietnam will compete in 18 out of 21 skills at the 8th ASEAN Skill Contest held in Bangkok, Thailand from November 14-24.

At the departure ceremony in Hanoi on November 11, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Dam Huu Dac, said that Vietnam has abundant human resources but their quality is not high. Workers’ skills are lower than those in some neighbouring countries.

Despite significant progress, the quality of vocational training does not meet the country’s development demand. Therefore, joining the contest will help Vietnamese contestants to gain experience, Dac said.

Vietnam has joined the contest five times and ranked first and fourth both twice and second one time. The country also sent two delegations to attend World Skills Contest in Japan and in Canada.
