Saigon’s largest antique ceramics collector

(VOV) - Dinh Cong Tuong has spent the past 24 years collecting thousands of antique ceramics from across Vietnam, which he sells from a warehouse located in District 12 of Ho Chi Minh City.

The warehouse spans 2,000 square metres with more than 100,000 antique ceramic pieces.

He has a reputation as one of the largest antique ceramic collectors and was certified by Vietnam Record Book in 2014 as having in excess of 5,000 antique vases.

Born in Hanoi, Tuong moved to HCM City with his family when he was a child of eight.

Tuong worked hard all his life and in the process made many friends and took on a wide variety of jobs, always leaving time for his passion of collecting ceramics.

He has a variety of ceramic vases of varying sizes from different eras both from within and without the country, which make unique gifts (made in furnaces at Bien Hoa City of Dong Nai Province).

The artefacts come from China, France, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong (China) and Vietnam. Some date as far back as the 12th century.

He also owns ceramics shops in the northern, central and southern regions with items coming from diversified cultures of the Oc Eo, Dong Son and Cham ethnic minority groups.

Two pair of very valuable and rare ceramic horses from Bien Hoa in the 18th century.

An invaluable one of a kind antique from the Tan Tru district of Long An Province that Tuong said he bought for US$3,200.

A large plate from Vietnam’s feudal period in the 19th century is one of his most treasured pieces.

A few pieces were once used by the Oc Eo people in their daily lives.
