A former US Trade Representative gave a lecture on accessing the US market at the University of Economics under the Hanoi National University on December 1.

At the lecture, Susan Schwab, an experienced US policymaker, talked in detail about the business culture of the US, how to boost trade relations with its market and its government’s trade promotion strategies and policies regarding Vietnam.

She explained trade standards, quotas, tariff and non-tariff barriers and quarantine regulations, as well as methods of working with trade lobby groups in Washington D.C.

Schwab also analysed the experiences of other regional countries in trade relations with the US and provided consultations and recommendations for Vietnamese businesses to increase their competitiveness, such as diversifying export products, seeking new markets in emerging economies, stimulating the domestic market and upgrading technology.

Vietnamese businesspeople are active, clear-headed and creative, aware of the challenges and difficulties they face to seek solutions to suit their enterprises, she said in conclusion.
