Preparations underway for 132nd IPU General Assembly

(VOV) -The Ministries of Defence and Public Security have placed safety as the number one priority for the upcoming 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly set for March in Hanoi.

National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong reported at a January 21 working session of the NA Standing Committee that IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong has completed a fact-finding tour and shown his pleasure with Vietnam’s preparation.

More than 600 volunteer university students are currently taking training courses in preparation for the event, Phong added.

NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in turn emphasised the importance of thorough preparation for the event’s content, including a draft Hanoi Declaration and other draft resolutions.

She urged relevant agencies to pay particular attention to cuisine and shopping cultural space for those attending the event.

Addressing the session, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung underscored the point that this important diplomatic event requires organisation to take painstaking care to ensure it is successfully organised.

Hung added that the event will provide an excellent opportunity for Vietnam to promote its land, people and culture to international friends.
