Despite the global economic downturn, more than 1.8 million foreign tourists visited Ho Chi Minh City over the past seven months, up 10 percent compared to the same period last year.

The city also earned VND10.6 trillion from tourism, up 29.6 percent over the first part of 2010.

The sharp rise in CPI has affected tourism businesses, including air tickets and food and drink services. To cope with the situation, businesses must improve the quality of services, diversify products and offer tours at reasonable prices.

Ho Chi Minh City has implemented measures to develop tourism, created an action plan, promoted and carried out the second phase of the “100 interesting things to do in Ho Chi Minh City” programme and brought tourists to special art performances.

The city has also strengthened cooperation with neighbouring provinces and taken part in the Trade Promotion Organisation for Asia-Pacific Cities.

It has coordinated with Vietnam Airlines and the Tourism Association to promote tourism in key and potential markets including the Republic of Korea, Japan, the US, Russia, Spain, India and ASEAN countries.
