250 Vietnamese workers return to RoK

(VOV) - 250 Vietnamese guest workers who previously worked in the Republic of Korea (RoK) will be allowed to return to work in October.

Phan Van Minh, Director of the Overseas Labour Centre under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said the labourers worked for only one Korean employer and came back home as soon as their work permit expired.

Minh said the RoK has implemented some policies encouraging guest workers to return home on schedule. Those who do so will now be offered a chance to legally work in the country again.

Earlier, on August 28, the RoK announced a plan to stop recruiting new Vietnamese guest workers as thousands were overstaying their permits and living illegally.

More than 12,000 Vietnamese labourers who have passed Korean language tests are waiting for Korean employers to start recruitment.

Minh said the recruitment of the 250 Vietnamese workers is a positive signal for Vietnam to continue promoting labour exports to the RoK market.
