Indian Vice President in town

(VOV) - Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari began a four-day visit to Vietnam on January 14 at the invitation of Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.

The visit aims to foster the Vietnam-India strategic partnership in politics, economics, trade, investment, security, national defence, education-training, and science-technology.

The strategic partnership between Vietnam and India has developed well since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1972.

Both sides have maintained regular high-level delegation exchanges, including the India visits by State President Truong Tan Sang in October 2011, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in December 2012 and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh in January 2013.

Last year, Vietnam and India organized various activities marking 40 years of diplomatic ties and five years of their strategic partnership.

Two-way trade has grown and flourished over the years, notably reaching US$3.9 billion in 2011 and more than US$4 billion in 2012.
