Japanese Emperor begins State visit to Philippines

Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko arrived in the Philippines on January 26, starting their five-day State visit to the country. 

The visit was made at the invitation of President Benigno S.Aquino III, who welcomed the Emperor and Empress at Ninoy Aquino international airport. 

The President is scheduled to receive the guests on January 27.

This is the first official visit to the Philippines made by the Japanese Emperor and Empress. 

This year, the two countries are celebrating the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
