Hanoi fire crews learn new life savings techniques

VOV.VN - The Hanoi Fire Department is teaching its crews techniques for rescuing trapped victims, after a review of procedures showed there was work to be done.

Every firefighter in the department, from recruits to chiefs, is participating in the first stage of rapid intervention team, or RIT, training on April 21 at the Lotte Centre Hanoi.

We are not at the point that we should be as far as readiness, said one fire official.

Drills like this help us to learn proper techniques for rescuing trapped victims of major fires.

Fire doubles (in intensity) just about every 30 seconds, he said, noting that in case of emergencies time is of the essence in rescuing victims.

Techniques vary from high-tech to low-tech, like a rope the first firefighter carries for others to follow.

Training such as this is how firefighters prepare for split-second decisions they must make in life-or-death situations, he said.
