Government leader greets Special Envoy of Australian PM

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc  on June 27 hosted a reception in Hanoi for Frances Adamson, Special Envoy of Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

PM Phuc told his guest that the two countries have become important partners of each other in a multitude of fields as a result of the strong development of the comprehensive partnership.

He thanked the Australian PM for inviting him to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit set for March 2018, saying that the event will help  boost ties between ASEAN and Australia, and Vietnam and Australia.

Phuc also expressed wish that Australian businesses will pay greater attention to Vietnam, especially in fields of mutual strength such as hi-tech agriculture, animal husbandry, infrastructure, information technology, education and high technology.

He said he hopes Australia will become one of the biggest investors in Vietnam and facilitate the import of Vietnamese goods, particularly tropical fruits and aquatic products.

The more than 30,000 Vietnamese students now studying in Australia are the resource for stronger bilateral relations in the coming time, Phuc said while expressing his desire that the Australian government will offer conditions for more Vietnamese students there.

Welcoming the bilateral vacation labour programme that was launched in March 1, 2017, he asked that Australia receive more Vietnamese workers in the near future.

Vietnam welcomes Australia’s increasingly important role in the region and the world, especially Australia’s strong statements in support of Vietnam and ASEAN’s stance on the East Sea issue, including the respect for international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), PM Phuc said.

Adamson, who is also Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, said both nations share common interests in terms of regional strategy, open trade environment and regional affairs because Australia places high importance on ASEAN.

She affirmed that her nation desire to bring bilateral ties to a higher level in the future. The special envoy conveyed a letter from the Australian PM to the Vietnamese government leader.
