Cassava exports show upturn
(VOV) - Vietnam fetched US$84 million from exporting 235,000 tonnes of cassava and tapioca products in September, bringing the total exports volume to 3.27 million tonnes worth US$1.03 billion in nine months, up 28.4% in volume and 24.3% in value.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), China remained the top importer of Vietnamese cassava, accounting for 89.17% of market shares.
Cassava exports to Japan recorded the highest growth (up 72.29% in volume and 84.45% in value), trailed by Taiwan (up 46% in volume and 43.51% in value).

As a result, cassava posted the highest export growth among agricultural products for the past nine months after export duties were cut down to zero as of September 5.
The Ministry of Finance said it would work together with relevant agencies to adjust export duties on cassava next year in line with domestic production and consumption so as to ensure benefits of the State, businesses and farmers.
With the average export price of US$420-430 per tonne, the Vietnam Cassava Association forecast that cassava and tapioca exports are likely to hit US$1.5 billion this year.
