Countries congratulate Vietnam on 76th National Day

VOV.VN - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has congratulated the government and people of Vietnam on the 76th National Day (September 2), saying the US looks forward to working closely with the country to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press statement released on September 1, Antony Blinken  said, “On behalf of the United States of America, I extend my congratulations to the people of Vietnam on the occasion of Vietnam’s National Day. The US-Vietnam relationship progressed to new heights in 2021 thanks to our joint efforts to overcome the past and look towards a brighter future for our people. I send my best wishes to the government and people of Vietnam on your National Day and look forward to working closely with you to build back better from this pandemic.”

COVID-19 has taken a heavy toll around the world, including within the two countries. The US and Vietnam have supported each other during these difficult times, as well as through growing health cooperation, exchanges of medical supplies and equipment, and most recently, with US vaccine donations. 

The opening of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Regional Office for Southeast Asia in Hanoi provides a new platform to strengthen health security cooperation with Vietnam and the entire Indo-Pacific region, according to the statement.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on September 2 extended congratulations to Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day.

Earlier on September 1, the 76th National Day of Vietnam (September 2) was celebrated by the Embassy of Vietnam in India.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau applauded the efforts and pandemic containment measures by the Government of India in the COVID-19 fight which have helped stabilise the situation in the country.

He expressed his gratitude to the Indian Government for donating 300 oxygen generators and 100 tonnes of liquid oxygen to support the treatment of COVID-19 patients in Vietnam.

2021 marks the fifth year of the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership, the ambassador said, adding that the countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties next year.

The trade ties between both nations have grown steadily, with trade turnover in the first half of 2021 returning to the level before the pandemic and providing ample room for growth, the Vietnamese diplomat said.

He expressed his hope that the upward trend will be maintained to soon reach the US$ 15 billion trade target set by the two countries’ leaders.

On the occasion of Vietnam’s 76th National Day, a bust of late President Ho Chi Minh was erected in New Delhi, India on September 1.

This is one of the final stages to prepare for the inauguration of the monument to the late leader in New Delhi - part of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to India slated for the end of 2021 to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.   

Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau said that the bust is a symbol for the close-knit relationship nurtured by generations of the two countries’ leaders.

On September 1, the Vietnamese Embassy in France and the administration of Montreau city laid flowers at President Ho Chi Minh’s bust in Park Montreau  on the occasion of Vietnam’s 76th National Day and the late President’s 52nd death anniversary (September 2).

Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang hailed the city's contributions to the development of the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and France.

Montreau Deputy Mayor Florian Vigneron affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh is not only a friend of the French people, but also a particularly important figure for the French Communist Party. He highlighted the close friendship between Montreau and Vietnamese localities, and sympathised with the Vietnamese people about the difficulties in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

On September 2, the Vietnamese Embassy and representative offices in Singapore laid flowers at the monument of President Ho Chi Minh in the Asian Civilisations Museum's premises.

Elsewhere German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier extended his greetings to Vietnam on the occasion and expressed his hope to continue promoting the close and trustful relations and cooperation with the Southeast Asian nation even amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Frank-Walter Steinmeier extended his wish for prosperity and a future of peace to the Vietnamese people.
