Diplomats visit Vietnamese prisoners in Cambodia

(VOV) - A Vietnamese Embassy delegation led by Counselor Nguyen Chi Dung on January 30 visited the Vietnamese male prisoners being detained at Prey So 1 camp in Cambodia.

Lieutenant General Be Tea Leng, deputy head of Cambodia’s General Department of Prisons (GDP) , spoke highly of Vietnam’s care for its inmates whom she said will follow prison rules.

Leaders of the Vietnamese Embassy and the GDP agreed that the two governments’ humanitarian policies will motivate prisoners to work hard so that they can soon reunite with their families.

On the occasion of former Cambodian King Norodom Shihanouk’s national funeral, the GDP has decided to let 18 Vietnamese prisoners out on parole.

In March 2012, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia also visited 24 Vietnamese female prisoners at Pray So 2 detention camp.
