The trip is set to take place in late May and the visit schedule is under discussion and arranged through the diplomatic channel.

“In recent times, senior leaders of both nations have made high-level exchange visits. The forthcoming visit to Vietnam by President Barack Obama will be the first one in his second term of office", Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh said.

At the Nuclear Security Summit in April, President Obama told the Vietnamese diplomat that he is fully expecting a visit to Vietnam.

"Vietnam and the US need to deep the comprehensive partnership across a variety of fields such as politics, economics and culture and exert more efforts to address East Sea-related issues in order to maintain peace and stability. Vietnam is very interested in issues relating to the war aftermath, including Agent orange and humanitarian activities of both sides,” Minh noted.
