The Japanese Government has approved a US$2.6-million project to help the southern provinces of Tien Giang and An Giang set up pilot distance learning centres and conduct scientific research.

The three-year project aims to strengthen the links between universities and local communities, thus contributing to opening new prospects for Mekong Delta provinces under the Japanese official development assistance (ODA) programme for Vietnam in the 2006-07 fiscal year.

The project will also assist Tien Giang and An Giang provinces to set up e-learning centres.
