The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on January 8 to review the results of implementing the Ordinance on Religion and Belief over the past four years.

With the aim of ensuring citizens’ freedom of religion and belief, the Vietnamese Government has recognised the operations of 42 religions organisations. The country now has 23 million religious followers, including 80,000 Catholics, and 26,000 churches.

All followers have played a positive role in social and charity activities, generating funds worth thousands of billions of VND, which has gone toward eradicating hunger, alleviating poverty and promoting socio-economic development nationwide.
