Young people play a key role in the country’s development, particularly in its international integration process. Therefore, it is essential to educate young people so that they have great ideals and enthusiasm in order to successfully uphold the nation’s tradition and revolutionary cause.

These remarks were made by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung during a meeting with 10 of the most outstanding youths in 2006 at the Governmental Office in Hanoi on March 25. This was the 11th meeting held by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee to honour outstanding young people under the sponsorship of the Vietnam Young Talents Support Fund.

The 10 most outstanding youths are Tu Ngoc Ly Lan, specializing in chemistry in the 12th grade of the Natural Science University under the Hanoi National University; Nguyen Khac Vinh, secretary of the Natural Science University’s youth union and deputy secretary of the Hanoi National University’s youth union; Tran Dinh Khai from Mao Khe coal company in northern Quang Ninh province; Vu Van Chiem, head of border guard station 562 in Ho Chi Minh City; Luu Hong Quang, a student of Hanoi Conservatoire; Luu Thi Thanh from northern Thanh Hoa province, a member of national sepak takraw team; Nguyen Cong Hung, director of the humanitarian informatics training center in Nghi Dien commune, Nghi Loc district in central Nghe An province; Duong Cong Nhan, secretary of Loc Thuy communal Youth Union in Le Thuy district, central Quang Binh province; Vu Tri Thanh from HCM City Medical and Pharmaceutical University; and Hoang Viet Hung, a policeman from central Nghe An province. During the meeting, the young people expressed their desires and aspirations, as well as gratitude for the Party, State, Government and Central Youth Union for their attention and support to create favourable conditions for young generations to further study and grow up. They also wished to make further contributions to the country’s development.

PM Dung was glad to meet the ten outstanding young people of Vietnam in 2006 who have greatly contributed to the country’s achievements over the past years. He hoped that the young people will continue to do their best to build the country. The PM highlighted efforts made by HCM City Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the Vietnam Young Talents Support Fund in selecting outstanding young people and encouraging them promote their potential and talent to national construction and defense.

He emphasized that HCM Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the Vietnam Young Talents Support Fund should continue educating young people to select outstanding representatives in 61 provinces and cities nationwide. Each sector should also select outstanding young people in local emulation movements to get rid of social evils among young people.
