Vietnamese girl wins first prize at int’l piano contest in Thailand

(VOV) - A nine- year- old Vietnamese girl won the first prize in the third Mozart International Piano Competition 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand on July 25.

Quach Hoang Nhi topped 22 candidates in group D aged between 7 and 9. Her teacher, Dr Ta Quang Dong said the competition involved many outstanding candidates from many countries including the US, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines.

They were asked to perform a Sonata piece that is difficult for their age. A student from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, Quach Hoang Nhi has studied the piano for five years and won several international and local prizes, especially the gold prize at the music festival held in Cheonan, the Republic of Korea in August 2012.

Nguyen Kieu Anh, another member of the Vietnamese team also made it to the final round of group A involving candidates aged between 18 and 24.
