Unidentified, itchy drugs found in Chinese bras

A number of Chinese bras available in markets across Vietnam have been found to contain an unidentified type of pill and an unknown liquid that are itchy to consumers.

On October 29, a large batch of such lingerie was detected at the booth owned by Nguyen Thi My Xuyen at Ben Ngu market in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, following a surprise raid by the local market watchdog.

Officials seized 21 bras bearing labels that read An JiTing as the owner failed to present any invoices and receipts on the products.

When the bras were cut apart, officials found two packs of liquid, each of which contained three unknown, white tablets.

Xuyen said she bought the bras from people who shipped the products across the border at VND70,000 an item, and resold at VND110,000 each.

On October 28, Nguyen Thi Thu, residing in Hue City, bought a Chinese Yinnin bra from An Cuu market and also found the unidentified packs of liquid and drugs inside.

Thu said she had sent samples of the liquid and drugs to the Center for Drug and Food Test, under the province’s Department of Health, for tests.

Elsewhere, in the central city of Da Nang, market management officials also confiscated more than 100 Chinese bras from Con Market, all of which were sold without labels, origin certificates, and import receipts.

Three of the bras were found with the same liquid and drugs as those in Hue, officials said.

HCMC runs scrutiny

Meanwhile, in the southern hub of Ho Chi Minh City, the market watchdog said it will inspect all lingerie stores and shops citywide, following reports about the strange drugs from Hue and Da Nang.

Earlier Le Phuoc, a District 10 resident, reported to the agency that he had found six round-shaped pills in the Chinese bra he bought at An Dong market for his wife.

“The pills secrete a liquid that made my hands itchy,” he said.

The bra bears two small labels entirely in Chinese, and there are no sub-labels in Vietnamese, he told reporters.

Chinese bras are available in large markets such as Cho Lon and An Dong, and are sold in piles in front of the industrial parks and processing export zones in District 7, Thu Duc and Binh Chanh districts.
