By January 28, localities had provided allowance and gifts worth VND117 billion and 4,130 tonnes of rice to 1.8 million of poor people and beneficiaries of social welfare in 64 provinces and cities across the country.
More than 24,370 beneficiaries live in Ha Giang province, nearly 16,800 in Lai Chau province and more than 7,860 in Bac Kan province.
To welcome this year’s traditional Lunar New Year Festival, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) has directed provinces and cities not to let local people suffer from hunger and cold. However, according to MoLISA, in some poor provinces their budgets allocated for the poor are limited. The number of poor people who received support only accounts for 9 percent of the total poor in the country.
