PM Dung meets UN and French officials

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and French President Francois Hollande on the sidelines of the third Nuclear Security Summit in the Netherlands on March 25.

Meeting with the UN Chief, Dung affirmed Vietnam’s continued involvement in the important issues that are capturing attention of UN members.

They include the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the designing of a post-2015 development agenda, and UN reform.

Vietnam will spare no effort to fulfill its role as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 term.

For his part, Ban Ki-moon applauded Vietnam’s efforts and its contributions to the UN’s common issues.

Dung used the occasion to invite the UN Secretary General to visit Vietnam soon.

Talking with Prime Minister Dung, French President Francois Hollande said that both nations have maintained close links and shared cultural similarities.

The two leaders agreed to complete an action plan on the strategic partnership, and take specific measures to make the Vietnamese Year in France 2014 a success.

President Hollande accepted Prime Minister Dung’s invitation to visit Vietnam, noting that the trip will be made at an appropriate time.  

The same day, Prime Minister Dung and global leaders also attended two more plenary sessions. The Government leader held separate bilateral meetings with leaders from other nations at the summit which ended later in the day.
