Local agro-forestry and fisheries products to penetrate Egypt

(VOV) - The Vietnamese embassy in Egypt and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce held a seminar on October 30 to introduce Vietnam’s agro-forestry and fisheries products to the Egyptian market.

Addressing the seminar, Vietnamese ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Chung emphasized that with a time-honored tradition, a populous market and a vital geo-political and economic situation in the Middle East and South East Asia, Vietnam and Egypt see bright prospects for promoting trade ties.

Vietnam is the world’s largest agro-forestry and fisheries exporter while Egypt has a great demand for these products.

Chung said to increase trade turnover in the time ahead, businesses of both nations should actively participate in trade fairs, exhibitions and seminars to seek direct trade partners.

In addition, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry should sign agreements to facilitate businesses’ operations.

Adel Aref, Foreign Relations Adviser of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC) said currently Egyptian businesses are short of information on Vietnamese market.

He suggested more seminars and workshops should be held to help the business community in Egypt have better access to useful information on Vietnamese market.

During the seminar, a number of importers and trade groups located in Alexandria showed their keen interest in Vietnam’s frozen aquatic products like shrimps and basa (catfish).

Ms Luna Mahgood from Alexandria for Dairy Products and Foods, a subsidiary of Al Mansour group said her company is directly importing Vietnam’s seafood products to supply Metro supermarket chain, she added.

She wished to find more Vietnamese partners to export Egypt’s key products to Vietnam.
