Promoting the elderly’s interests
The Vietnam Elderly Association held a workshop in Hanoi on August 22 to review its supervision of law enforcement for the elderly.
Following the National Assembly’s approval of the Law on the Elderly in 2009, the Government and ministries have introduced a number of policies for social welfare beneficiaries, including the elderly. Among them are policies on social welfare, medical insurance, and financial support for poor elderly.
The association developed a project to enhance its engagement and supervision in implementing laws and policies for the elderly, which was carried out in Phu Tho, Quang Tri, Binh Thuan and Ca Mau provinces in 2010-2011.
In order to bring the elderly–targeted laws and policies to life, workshop delegates stressed the need to enhance public engagement and monitoring of these laws and policies, including the elderly associations at the grassroots level.
