Hong Kong- Nha Trang yacht race rounds off

The Hong Kong-Nha Trang International Yacht Race saw fierce competition among sailors during the 1,200 kilometre journey from Hong Kong to the central city of Nha Trang before it drew to a close on October 18.

Departing from Hong Kong on October 15, nearly 150 sailors steered 12 boats to conquer a line-up of challenges such as rough seas, strong winds and complications during typhoon season.

The Australian Ragamuffin 100 won the tournament after 40 hours riding to Nha Trang Bay, breaking its own record set two years ago, 42 hours.

Meanwhile, the Black Baza was awarded first prize in the small boat category and Alive received first prize for the large boat category.

Officially launched in 2004, the biennial tournament is organised by the Hong Kong Royal Yacht Club, the VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund., Ltd and the Saigon Marina Co., Ltd.

The event aims to showcase coastal tourist destinations, like Nha Trang. It also helps encourage yacht racing.
