The defending champion of the Vietnam National Football Tournament (V-League) will qualify for the playoff round of the AFC Champion League, the football competition for top clubs in Asia as from 2013.

According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), in Southeast Asia, Thailand has one ticket to the group stage and one to the playoff round, while Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam will each be given a berth to the playoff round.
At present, Vietnam has two tickets to the AFC Cup, the second most prestigious Asian club football contest after the Champion League.
Song Lam Nghe An and Navibank Saigon are now playing at the AFC Cup 2012.
