Quang Liem draws at Spice Cup 2012
(VOV) - Spice Cup defending champion Le Quang Liem has been held to a draw by German Grand Master Georg Meier in the first match of the 2012 Spice Cup chess tournament in the US.
Despite recently re-entering the list of the top international chess Grandmasters (GM) with an Elo of 2693, the Vietnamese player only managed to end the game after 48 moves.
In his next match, Liem is scheduled to face Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, a strong rival from France with an Elo of 2705.
The winner of this year's tournament will receive a trophy and US$10,000 in cash.
Quang Liem won the championship last year after defeating Leinier Dominguez Perez from Cuba.
