On behalf of the government, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem sent a letter of condolence to Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi after a devastating gas explosion in a coal mine.

Sources from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in the letter dated November 25, that Mr Khiem, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed deep sympathy for the human and economic loss that China suffered at the blast in the Xinxing Coal Mine in the northeast province of Heilongjiang after the accident on November 21.

The Xinhua news agency reported that the blast claimed the lives of 87 people and left 21 others missing.
