Vast potential for Angola-Vietnam trade ties

(VOV) - There is huge potential for Angola-Vietnam trade and investment relations, said Angola Ambassador to Vietnam Joao Manuel Bernardo at a November 4 press briefing in Hanoi.

Ambassador Bernardo said since Vietnam and Angola established diplomatic ties on November 12, 1975 bilateral relations have continually developed through exchange visits.

Though trade and investment ties have grown over the past decade, the volume is still much below potential, said Ambassador Bernardo, and leaders on both sides hope that trade will grow substantially.

He said PetroVietnam has actively worked with Angolan businesses to carry out oil and gas exploration and businesses in his country and it wants to expand cooperation to other areas including ore exploitation, telecommunications and agriculture.

He said about 110 Vietnamese teachers and 220 doctors are currently working in Angola while the number of guest workers has expanded to an estimated 40,000.

The Ambassador said the Angola Embassy in Vietnam has held a wide range of activities such as golf tournament and football tournaments, and banquets to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
