Conference on water project in Ha Giang
A conference to accelerate the implementation of a German-funded water project was held in Dong Van district, the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on October 3.

The Kawatech project, implemented since February 2014, aims to pilot new technology in water supply for communities in the areas surrounding the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Tien urged relevant bodies to accelerate land clearance and compensation to implement the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
As per the project, two pumping systems using no electricity with daily capacity of 1,555 cubic metres have been installed in Seo Ho hydropower plant’s reservoir in Thai Phin Tung commune, Dong Van district under the supervision of German experts.
Water shortage is a pressing issue in the Dong Van Karst Plateau – which encompasses Dong Van, Meo Vac and Yen Minh districts – largely due to short concentrated rainfall and water bodies located far from settlement areas. Rivers and ground water could be an effective solution if altitudes and distances can be managed.
The project is coordinated by the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, the Water Resources University, Ha Giang People’s Committee and five German partners.
